Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you do on-site consultations?

A: Yes, we do! Please contact us for details. And please also do subscribe to our free e-newsletter, to get a better feel for what to expect from an on-site consultation with us, and how SFS-Homes can guide you through a series of steps to make the consultation something you can easily afford.

Q: Do you take credit cards?

A: Yes, we take credit cards through Pay-Pal. Just give us a call, and we'll set you up with a secure web page you can use to enter your payment information, once we agree on the services we'll be providing and the fee we'll charge you.

Q: My builder says he can design my home for free. Why should I use you?

A: No such thing as a free lunch, folks. The builder has to pay his architect something, and will incorporate that cost into the price of the home. On the other hand, that may be what you want. The home loan can cover lots that you may not be able to with other credit lines or with cash. But have you asked your builder what his architect knows about feng shui? Is your builder truly sympathetic to your needs, or is he just trying to get your business in these tough economic times? Would your builder be open to working with SFS-Homes as a consultant, to allow our fee to be incorporated into the price of the home? If not, remember that SFS-Homes is an associate member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). We may be able to help you find other builders who may be more in tune with your needs.

Q: One of your floor plans has the stairs pointing out the front door. Bad feng shui!

A: With that floor plan, perhaps the stairs look like they're pointed out the door, but there is actually a wall between the stairs and the front door, so no harm done.

Q: What do you think of bougainvillea? Isn't it too prickly to use in feng shui?

A: Planting purple and red bougainvillea attracts wealth - purple and red represent prosperity and are very important feng shui colors. Bougainvillea is often used to excellent effect when allowed or trained to climb a trellis or chain-link fence. As far as its prickly aspect, we actually recommend it for use concerning generational issues. In fact, prickly plants of any kind, such as cactus, are often used in feng shui to help rid one's environment of some figurative thorn in the side, such as a pesky neighbor or co-worker. Feel free to contact us for details of this cure.

Q: Do you do earthships?

A: We don't have lots of experience with earthships. The idea sounds great, in theory - natural materials, reuse of many resources, etc. Before we assist you with an earthship, we probably need to spend some time defining what exactly we mean by an earthship, what materials to use, who will build it, etc. At SFS-Homes, we feel that earthships have the potential to be one of the better approaches to a great feng shui design. But how many people would feel great sleeping next to old tires? Some might, and we applaud them for it. Unfortunately, most people we have heard of or spoken to who want an earthship try to do all the work themselves and may not create the best environment for themselves. To us, feng shui implies attractive to live in, and so many earthships we've seen look like piles of junk. Any well-built and attractive home is the result of lots of planning and lots of delegating to a long list of experts. At SFS-Homes we recognize a necessity for a great team of experts, and know and work well with several. With such a team, you may actually be able to take what might have looked like a pile of junk and transform it into a thing of beauty that anyone would be happy to live in. So please do contact us for our assistance if you'd like to incorporate a good feng shui design into your earthship.

Q: What about building green?

A: By all means, build green! SFS-Homes recognizes green-building techniques almost as a precursor to and possibly even a requirement for a new, feng shui-built home. A green-built home will save you considerably over the years, both in energy costs and in simple living efficiency. Like feng shui, building green will cost you more up front, but will be well worth the investment, if done correctly. Please do contact us for more information. With our NAHB contacts, we can help you with green-building advice.

Q: I don't have any money and my credit is non-existent! How can I possibly afford a new home, let alone your services?
